Jio Eyes India’s Biggest IPO
Mukesh Ambani-led Jio Platforms is preparing for a landmark stock-market debut after receiving SEBI clearance for an IPO expected to raise around ₹37,700 crore ($3.8 billion). At the proposed size, the issue could become India’s largest-ever IPO, surpassing Hyundai Motor India’s 2024 listing.
Jio plans to issue up to 27 crore fresh equity shares, representing roughly 2.9% of its post-issue equity. Importantly, the proposed issue has no offer-for-sale component, meaning the proceeds will flow into the company rather than providing an immediate exit to existing shareholders.
A major portion—up to ₹27,500 crore—is intended to prepay borrowings of subsidiary Reliance Jio Infocomm. Reducing debt could strengthen Jio’s balance sheet as it continues investing heavily in telecom infrastructure, AI, cloud computing and enterprise digital services.
Jio’s scale makes the listing particularly significant. The telecom business had more than 533 million subscribers by June 2026, while Jio Platforms has expanded beyond connectivity into AI, cloud and enterprise network services. Reliance Industries currently owns about 66.4%, while Meta and Google remain major strategic shareholders.
Analyst predicts, the IPO represents more than fundraising—it could establish an independent market valuation for one of Reliance’s most valuable digital businesses. Estimates around the proposed transaction have placed Jio Platforms’ valuation near ₹9.5 trillion, although the final valuation will depend on IPO pricing and investor demand.
For India’s capital markets, a successful Jio listing would demonstrate their growing capacity to absorb exceptionally large technology offerings. For Reliance, it could unlock shareholder value while giving Jio greater financial flexibility for its next phase of 5G, AI, cloud and digital-platform expansion. The challenge will be convincing investors that Jio can translate its enormous subscriber base and digital ecosystem into sustained profitability and long-term technology growth.
