Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has announced a strategic collaboration with NVIDIA to establish a gigawatt-scale AI factory in India, reinforcing the country’s position as a global AI powerhouse. The announcement was made at the India AI Summit as part of the India AI Mission.
The venture aims to create sovereign, scalable AI infrastructure across India, providing production-grade capacity for enterprises, cloud providers, global hyperscalers, and government initiatives. Combining L&T’s engineering, execution, and infrastructure expertise with NVIDIA’s AI hardware and software stack—including GPUs, CPUs, networking, NVIDIA AI Enterprise software, and accelerated storage platforms—the initiative will enable rapid, secure, and large-scale AI deployment.
Sovereign AI Infrastructure for India
Aligned with the India AI Mission, the AI factory will support the development, training, and deployment of critical AI workloads within India while remaining interoperable with global ecosystems. The Chennai campus will scale NVIDIA GPU clusters up to 30 MW, and a new 40 MW data center is under construction in Mumbai. The factory will deliver AI-ready capacity for next-generation workloads, enabling Indian enterprises to move from experimentation to production-scale deployment.
“This investment establishes the foundation—secure, scalable, and sovereign infrastructure—needed to power AI across manufacturing, energy, financial services, healthcare, and public sectors,” said S. N. Subrahmanyan, Chairman & MD, L&T. “With NVIDIA’s platforms and L&T’s execution strength, we are building infrastructure that will deliver measurable economic impact.”
Driving AI Adoption across Industries
The AI factory will also support L&T group initiatives, including agentic AI deployment across industrial operations, sovereign cloud, and internal AI applications. By offering standardized, enterprise-grade AI capabilities, the venture aims to accelerate AI adoption while ensuring predictable performance, strong governance, and rapid time-to-value.
Jensen Huang, Founder and CEO of NVIDIA, said, AI is driving the largest infrastructure buildout in human history. Together with L&T, we are laying the foundation for world-class AI infrastructure in India, helping realize Prime Minister Modi’s vision of democratizing AI access and positioning India as a global hub for digital infrastructure.”
The L&T-NVIDIA partnership marks a significant milestone in India’s AI mission, creating sovereign, high-density AI infrastructure designed to serve domestic and international demand while advancing the vision of “Making AI in India and Making AI Work for India.”
