Maharashtra is set to revolutionize urban transport by launching India’s first pod-taxi network (Personal Rapid Transit - PRT), a project aimed at providing seamless and efficient connectivity across key locations.
The ambitious project will initially focus on connecting major transit hubs, commercial centers, and residential areas, reducing traffic congestion and cutting down travel times significantly. These automated, driverless vehicles will run on elevated tracks, offering commuters a comfortable and on-demand travel experience.
This innovative step is expected to boost last-mile connectivity and integrate smoothly with existing public transport systems, such as metro and bus networks. The introduction of the pod-taxi network aligns with the state government's broader vision of adopting smart, green, and sustainable urban infrastructure.
The PRT system, which relies on smaller, automated vehicles, offers benefits like lower operating costs and reduced environmental impact compared to conventional rail or road transport. If successful, this pilot project could serve as a template for implementing similar advanced urban mobility solutions in other major Indian cities facing high traffic density.
