Pilot service enables international visitors from over 40 countries to make seamless UPI payments across India without a local bank account or Indian mobile number, simplifying digital transactions during the AI summit in New Delhi.
The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has introduced its ‘UPI One World’ wallet service for international delegates attending the India AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi. The pilot rollout is aimed at visitors from more than 40 countries participating in the event being held at Bharat Mandapam from February 16 to 20.
The initiative is designed to make digital payments easier for foreign travellers by allowing real-time person-to-merchant (P2M) transactions across India without the need for an Indian bank account or local mobile number.
Seamless UPI access for foreign visitors
Through the ‘One World’ wallet, delegates can shop, dine, and pay for services using India’s widely accepted Unified Payments Interface (UPI) network. Once linked to an international mobile number, the wallet can be used at any merchant outlet that accepts UPI payments — spanning metros, smaller towns, and even rural locations.
NPCI said the wallet is being issued through authorised prepaid payment instrument (PPI) providers and is currently available at two physical touchpoints: Indira Gandhi International Airport and NPCI’s pavilion at Bharat Mandapam (Hall 14, Stall 14.16). The announcement was shared via NPCI’s official handle on X.
How the wallet works
Visitors can activate the wallet by downloading the CheqUPI app by Transcorp from the Play Store or App Store. The onboarding process requires users to enter personal details, upload passport and visa documents, take a selfie for verification, and set a UPI PIN. A unique UPI ID is generated upon successful registration.
Funds can be loaded into the wallet using international debit or credit cards. Payments can then be made by scanning any UPI QR code and authenticating the transaction with the UPI PIN.
The system permits a maximum load of ₹25,000 per transaction, with a cumulative monthly cap of ₹50,000. NPCI added that any unused balance at the end of the visit can be refunded to the original payment source in line with foreign exchange regulations.
With this move, NPCI aims to showcase India’s digital payments ecosystem to a global audience while enhancing convenience for international travellers.
