India just hosted its first Nano Electronics Roadshow, marking a major step toward building a self-reliant semiconductor industry. Organized by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) in partnership with IISc Bengaluru and top IITs (Bombay, Delhi, Madras, Kharagpur, Guwahati), the event took place on March 27, 2025, at IISc Bengaluru.
Inaugurated by Shri S. Krishnan (MeitY Secretary) and Shri Abhishek Singh (Additional Secretary), the event showcased over 100 patented technologies, 50+ innovations, and 35 promising startups from six advanced nanoelectronics centers across India.
The roadshow emphasized India’s growing strength in semiconductor design and manufacturing, driven by MeitY's efforts to develop a high-skilled workforce of 85,000 professionals and support from research institutes. These efforts align with PM Modi’s Atmanirbhar Bharat vision for self-reliance.
Krishnan highlighted that the India Semiconductor Mission is one of the largest global programs, with up to 75% of investments in chip facilities coming from public funds. India's current semiconductor demand of $45–50 billion is expected to double by 2030.
Singh spoke about how fast technology is evolving and how India’s startup ecosystem, supported by government programs like India AI and INUP, is solving real-world problems using cutting-edge tools.
The Nano Centers at IISc and IITs are leading India's deep-tech growth by turning lab research into practical innovations. At the event, students presented 48 live demos of breakthrough technologies. The roadshow also fostered collaboration between startups and academia, with four MoUs signed, including IISc with KAS Technologies and Antigone Solutions, and others focused on healthtech and electronics.
This event brought together industry leaders, researchers, and policymakers to share ideas and drive India’s semiconductor future forward. Notable attendees included senior leaders from Tata Electronics, Micron, ISRO, Lam Research, and BITS Pilani, among others. Overall, the Nano Electronics Roadshow was a launchpad for India's next wave of semiconductor innovation, focused on building homegrown tech to tackle real challenges and make India a global leader in nanoelectronics.
