Prime Minister Narendra Modi vowed that ‘India will stop only if Pakistan stops’. The PM’s statement comes a day after Pakistan violated the “bilateral understanding” with India along the borders. ‘Wahan se goli chalegi, yahan se gola chalega…’ PM Modi reportedly said in clear direction to the Armed forces.
India’s clear directions – to respond forcefully if provoked
India's position after May 7 'Operation Sindoor' strikes on terror infrastructure in territories controlled by Pakistan was that if the ‘adversary’ fires, India will respond more forcefully.
The Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi also reviewed the security situation with the Army Commanders of the Western Borders, granting full authority to the Army Commanders for counteraction in the kinetic domain to any violation of the understanding reached with the DGMO talks of 10 May 2025.
PM Modi took two huge calls—one striking at the terror headquarters across the border on May 7, as a response to the April 22 Pahalgam strike.
The second one, on May 10, was bigger—attacking Pakistan’s multiple air bases, including in Islamabad and Rawalpindi. This was after Pakistan dared to launch ballistic missiles against two major military bases in India.
Modi was unmoved even when US Vice-President JD Vance called him, asking if hostilities can be ceased. The prime minister promised a devastating response to Pakistan if it continues to act against India.
External Minister S Jaishanakar’s response to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio was similar after Rubio said Pakistan Army chief Asim Munir had told him he was ready to stop military action. Rubio was told to “let Pakistan DGMO say so directly to India".
Modi, through these events underlines his latest philosophy—neither the border, nor the nuclear threat, will protect terrorists. If Pakistan foments terrorism against India, it will now be an ‘act of war’.
