OpenAI Faces Major Outage Amid Surge In Studio Ghibli Image Requests
Meanwhile, OpenAI faced a massive outage in India and other regions as ChatGPT experienced an unprecedented surge in demand. Many users took to social media to report issues, with complaints and memes flooding platforms. The spike in activity was likely due to users generating Ghibli-style AI images and text-based content.
According to Downdetector, outages began around 6:30 PM, with nearly 18,000 users reporting problems. The majority of the reported issues (95%) were related to ChatGPT, while DALL·E and Sora accounted for 3% and 2%, respectively. This raises concerns about OpenAI’s ability to handle the growing demand for generative AI, especially as digital art trends like the PM Modi Ghibli image continue to gain popularity.
Altman acknowledged the technical difficulties, stating that OpenAI was working on scaling up its infrastructure to accommodate the increasing demand. The viral nature of AI-generated art, especially in culturally significant contexts, is pushing platforms like OpenAI to enhance their capabilities for a seamless user experience.
