Uttar Pradesh emerges as India’s largest electronics and mobile manufacturing hub

Backed by sustained policy support, rising investments and expanding industrial infrastructure, the state is strengthening its position in electronics manufacturing while attracting global companies and advancing India's ambitions to become a major technology production and export destination.

Uttar Pradesh has consolidated its position as India's leading electronics and mobile manufacturing destination, with the state accounting for nearly 65% of the country's mobile phone production and around 55% of electronics component manufacturing. The achievement reflects a significant shift in India's manufacturing ecosystem, driven by large-scale investments, industrial expansion and government-backed policy initiatives.

The growth has been largely centred around the Noida and Greater Noida industrial belt, which has evolved into one of the country's most prominent electronics manufacturing clusters. Several global smartphone brands, including Samsung, Oppo, Vivo and LG, have established large-scale manufacturing operations in the region, contributing substantially to India's domestic production capacity.

The state's manufacturing ecosystem has also attracted major Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and Original Design Manufacturers (ODMs), including Dixon Technologies, Optiemus, Padget Electronics, Zetwerk-owned Zeton and Bhagwati Products. Their combined presence has strengthened domestic supply chains while enhancing India's role in global electronics manufacturing.

Noida cluster powers electronics manufacturing growth

Beyond smartphone assembly, Uttar Pradesh has emerged as a key production centre for electronic components used across consumer electronics and communication devices. Companies such as Samkwang, Holitech, KHY, Khvatec, Minda Corporation, JWorld, Shinsung C&T, Sunwoda and Dreamtech manufacture printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs), display modules, capacitors and other critical electronic components within the state.

Consumer electronics manufacturers Haier and Panasonic are also expanding their production footprint in Uttar Pradesh, further diversifying the state's industrial base. Industry observers attribute the state's rapid growth to the availability of integrated manufacturing ecosystems, improved logistics connectivity and a skilled workforce that supports large-scale production.

According to the state government, a series of industry-focused policy interventions have played a significant role in attracting investments. The Electronics Manufacturing Policy introduced in 2017, followed by subsequent revisions in 2020 and 2022, along with the Electronics Component Manufacturing Policy 2025, have together drawn investments exceeding ₹28,000 crore from more than 75 companies.

Semiconductor push and export momentum

Uttar Pradesh has also begun expanding into semiconductor manufacturing, securing approved investments worth ₹32,146 crore. Among the major projects is the HCL-Foxconn Display Driver Chip manufacturing facility planned near Jewar, which is expected to contribute to India's efforts to build a domestic semiconductor ecosystem and reduce import dependence.

The state's export performance has also witnessed remarkable growth over the past decade. Electronics exports, which were minimal in 2015, reached approximately $2.58 billion during 2022-23, accounting for a significant share of India's total electronics exports. The momentum continued in 2024-25, with smartphone exports alone touching $17.5 billion, highlighting Uttar Pradesh's growing contribution to global supply chains.

Focus expands to next-generation technologies

Alongside manufacturing expansion, Uttar Pradesh has strengthened its digital infrastructure through more than 1.85 lakh Common Service Centres delivering hundreds of e-governance services across the state. A large domestic consumer base, supported by widespread smartphone adoption, has further reinforced demand for electronics products.

Looking ahead, the state government is encouraging investments in advanced technology sectors, including artificial intelligence, machine learning, robotics, drones, automation and Industry 4.0 manufacturing. These initiatives are expected to generate employment opportunities, attract additional global investments and further position Uttar Pradesh as a key contributor to India's ambition of becoming a global electronics and technology manufacturing powerhouse.
