For confirmed businesses and channels, instant messaging platform WhatsApp is replacing the existing green badge with a blue checkmark. This step complements Meta’s efforts to create a consistent visual identity for verified accounts across its platforms, including Instagram and Facebook. WhatsApp also intends to offer iOS users the same opportunity to experiment with the new checkmark, as it already does for the Android version.
The blue checkmark certifies authenticity, safeguarding users from potential impersonation and facilitating secure engagements with verified businesses and channels.
Meta adopted this consistency in visual identity across its platforms which include WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram so that users can easily recognize verified accounts, fostering trust and familiarity. This unified approach strengthens brand recognition, making it easier for users to identify authentic accounts and engage with confidence. Users who have installed the latest version of WhatsApp beta for iOS from the TestFlight app can avail the feature and it is rolling out to more people over the coming weeks.
This step can also be seen as a response to Meta Verified, a feature announced by Mark Zuckerberg two months ago and available to some businesses in certain markets.
