A Manimekhalai to head Union Bank
2022-06-03A Manimekhalai becomes the MD of Union Bank of India. It is for the first time that a woman has been appointed to head the Mumbai-based bank. She was the ED of Canara Bank. Manimekhala succeeded Rajkiran Rai G, whose tenure ended on May 31.
Manimekhala has been appointed for a period of three years or until further orders. The government notification said that she would be available for extension of term by two years or until her retirement date (March 2026).
Manimekhalai joined Vijaya Bank as an officer in 1988. She has three decades of banking experience. She took charge as Executive Director of Canara Bank in February 2019 and is a Director of the General Insurance Corporation and three group companies of Canara Bank.
Center has also declared the MDs who will take charge in Indian Overseas Bank and Punjab & Sind Bank as recommended by the appointment committee of the Cabinet. Punjab National Bank ED Swarup Kumar Saha becomes MD of Punjab & Sind Bank. He succeeded S Krishnan who was the MD & CEO. Krishnan retired in May 2022. In Indian Overseas Bank, Ajay Kumar Srivastava, ED of the bank, has been identified to succeed Partha Pratim Sengupta as MD & CEO who retires at the end of the year.
