To entice Indian tablet lovers, IIT, Bombay is trying to make the next version of Aakash tablet better. According to a latest update, researchers and professors at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay are mulling to equip the third edition of the low-cost tablet Aakash with newer apps and more open source software than ever before.

To the reader’s surprise, this all would be available in Aakash 3 within the existing price band.
According to the global tender, which is expected to be floated in February, nearly 50 lakh 'Aakash 3' tablets are expected to be rolled out in the next phase.
Deepak B Phatak, committee member and a professor in IIT- Bombay's Department of Computer Science and Engineering said, "Our aim is to imbibe the usage of tablets in the education system and create an ecosystem for this. We have distributed Aakash tablets to 250 colleges across the country and asked them to come up with newer ways to use the device.”
Phatak further added, “Aakash 3 will have a faster processor supporting both Linux and Android operating systems and come with advanced memory, he said. "It could also have a SIM card slot so that people can use it as a communication device."
