Nikita Bier has stepped down as Head of Product at Elon Musk-owned social media platform X, ending a tenure of just over a year in the role. Announcing his departure on Wednesday via a post on X, Bier said he would remain associated with the company as an advisor while stepping back from day-to-day product leadership.
“It’s time to pass the torch and demote myself to my natural state: a poster,” Bier wrote on X on Wednesday. “I’ll be stepping back from leading product for X and will continue on as an advisor.”
“Serving the X community has been the privilege of a lifetime. X is, and will remain, the most important communication technology in history. But running this app is a 24/7 job and it’s now time for me to take a breather,” Bier posted, adding, “The app is seeing unprecedented growth in new users & engagement. We continue to break records every month. We’ve climbed 70 spots in the App Store since this time last year.”
During his tenure, he said the platform underwent a sweeping overhaul, with teams rebuilding core features including the Timeline, Android app, onboarding experience, notifications and chat.
Hired by X in July 2025, Bier was best known in the tech community as the founder of “Gas” and “TBH” -- two teen-driven apps that were acquired, respectively, by Discord and Facebook in 2017 and 2023. Both apps gained millions of users in a short period of time, and have been used as case studies in viral marketing strategy.
