The global AI data centre market is witnessing explosive growth, projected to rise from $236.44 billion in 2025 to $933.76 billion by 2030, expanding at a CAGR of 31.6%.

This surge is driven by increasing demand for AI workloads, intelligent applications, and high-performance computing infrastructure.

Enterprises are rapidly adopting facilities optimized for dense storage, smart cooling, and sustainable energy use.

Colocation centres are emerging as the preferred model, offering scalable and cost-effective AI deployment.

India is mirroring this trend with its data centre capacity expected to quadruple to 4 GW IT by 2030, at a CAGR of 23%, according to Savills India.

In H1 2025 alone, 162 MW IT of new supply was added, while 212 MW IT was absorbed—led by Mumbai (61%) and Chennai (26%).

Tier-II cities like Bhubaneswar, Coimbatore, and Lucknow are rising as edge data centre hubs, expected to contribute over 20% of capacity by 2030.

Kolkata leads growth with a 48% CAGR, followed by Hyderabad (44%) and Ahmedabad (26%).

This decentralised expansion, fuelled by AI, 5G, and policy support, is drawing massive domestic and global investments into India’s digital infrastructure ecosystem.

Moving forward, all upcoming data centres in India must be AI-enabled and quantum-ready to handle future AI and GenAI workloads.
