All CPSEs to be a part of GeM - PM Modi
The Government e-Marketplace (GeM) is an excellent platform, offering customers and convenience for MSMEs. It has been announced today that all CPSEs will have to be a part of GeM, Prime Minister Narendra Modi Twitted.
Government e-Marketplace (GeM) is the National Public Procurement Portal, an end-to-end online Marketplace for Central and State Government Ministries/Departments, Central & State Public Sector Undertakings (CPSUs & SPSUs), Autonomous institutions and Local bodies for procurement of common use goods & services. The portal is owned and managed by GeM SPV which is a Section 8 (NonProfit) Company registered under the Companies Act, 2013. GeM SPV operates, monitors and supervises all the business transactions on the portal through the Managed Service Provider as per roles and responsibilities defined in the Legal Framework Document available on GeM portal.
The Prime Minister said that the Union Government has given operational freedom to the public sector undertakings, so that they can improve their performance. He said PSUs have contributed significantly in nation-building and in the nation’s economy since independence. Modi exhorted PSEs to help in making the New India, through changes in technology and processes. For this he said that PSEs would need a 5-P formula – Performance, Process, Persona, Procurement and Prepare.
Modi also mentioned earlier in improving operational and financial performance, transparency and accountability in processes, procurement through the GeM platform and from MSMEs and preparation for technological disruptions such as Artificial Intelligence, Quantum Computing and Robotics.
The “GeM” i.e. Government e-Marketplace is for the government users to cater to their demand of commonly required Goods & Services.
