AMD has launched a new range of desktop computing products aimed at boosting performance for gamers. Central to this lineup is the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D desktop processor, built on the advanced "Zen 5" architecture and featuring 2nd Gen AMD 3D V-Cache technology.
The Ryzen 7 9800X3D represents a significant evolution in on-chip memory design, with its 64MB cache now strategically positioned beneath the processor. This relocation enhances cooling efficiency by bringing the core complex die (CCD) closer to the cooling solution, enabling the “Zen 5” cores to operate at higher clock speeds. As a result, users can expect an average gaming performance increase of 8% compared to the previous generation and up to 20% faster performance than competing products.
This innovative cache placement not only enhances cooling but also paves the way for extreme overclocking capabilities. Notably, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D is the first X3D processor to be fully unlocked, giving gamers and enthusiasts the tools to maximize its performance potential.
"We continue to push the boundaries of performance and innovation in desktop computing, delivering solutions that exceed the needs of gamers and creators alike," said Jack Huynh, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Computing And Graphics, AMD. "With the introduction of the Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor, built on our advanced ‘Zen 5’ architecture, we are elevating gaming performance like never before. Featuring innovative 2nd AMD Gen 3D V-Cache technology, this processor reflects our commitment to excellence and our ability to innovate in ways that redefine the industry,” he said.
Leveraging the cutting-edge “Zen 5” architecture, AMD’s 3D V-Cache technology aims to deliver top-tier gaming performance. While the average frames per second (FPS) improvement is around 8% over previous generations, titles like Star Wars Outlaws are expected to see even greater boosts, reaching double-digit percentage increases. Notably, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor also enhances minimum frame rates, resulting in a smoother gaming experience with reduced stutter. For instance, in The Last Of Us: Part 1, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D matches its competitors in average frame rate but boasts a remarkable 31% higher 1% low frame rate.
AMD touts the Ryzen 7 9800X3D as the premier choice for PC gamers, featuring eight high-performance “Zen 5” cores and 16 threads to efficiently handle both gaming and productivity tasks. With a base clock speed of 4.7 GHz and a maximum boost clock of 5.2 GHz, this processor achieves the highest clock speeds ever seen on an X3D chiplet. Its robust 120W thermal design power (TDP) and substantial 104MB total cache further enhance its capabilities, ensuring it has the necessary power to excel.
"We're thrilled to team up with AMD as the exclusive CPU, GPU, and APU partner for Call of Duty. The Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor's exceptional performance and efficiency will elevate the gaming experience to new heights, ensuring our players enjoy unparalleled gameplay. This partnership marks a significant milestone for Call of Duty and AMD, and we're excited to see what we can achieve together,” said William Gahagan, Senior Director, Global Partnerships at Activision.
"We've been so thrilled to collaborate with AMD on Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2," said Tim Willits, Chief Creative Officer, Saber Interactive. "The power and innovation of AMD’s Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor has allowed us to push the boundaries of what’s possible, delivering an unparalleled gaming experience. Having faster high-performance hardware is always exciting to us because it means we have more power to deliver more innovation, better immersion, and more fun."
"Our long-standing partnership with AMD has been instrumental in bringing our most ambitious game design ideas to life," said Szymon Jabłoński, Technical Director, 11 bit Studios. "Without the support of AMD, groundbreaking titles like Frostpunk 2 and the upcoming sci-fi epic The Alters may not have been possible. Now, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor's power and efficiency allow us to push the boundaries of what is possible in gaming. With AMD as our exclusive CPU, GPU, and APU partner, we can create immersive worlds and intricate gameplay that our players have come to love. We look forward to continuing this journey with AMD and seeing where our combined innovations can take us.”
