2018-10-23
According to a report, a computer analyst Kerem Albayrak, 21, has allegedly tried to blackmail Apple after posting a video of him hacking into iCloud accounts on YouTube.
Based in Hornsey, north London, Kerem has demanded more than £133,000 worth of Bitcoin and £837 iTunes vouchers from the American tech giant.
The incident has been reported and Albayrak has appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ court charged with blackmail and unauthorized acts intending to hinder access to a computer.
It is heard in the court that he initially demanded $75,000 - roughly £50,000 - worth of Bitcoin then upped the amount to $150,000 and $1,100 - roughly £130,000 and £800 in iTunes gift cards in return for calling off his plan to sell the personal details of 319m Apple iCloud users.
He has been granted unconditional bail ahead of a plea and trial preparation hearing at Southwark Crown Court on 14 November.
