Apple raises music subscription prices in India

The revised pricing applies to new and existing subscribers across Apple Music and Apple One plans, with the company citing higher music licensing costs as the primary reason for the increase amid broader global pricing adjustments.

Apple has revised the pricing of its Apple Music and Apple One subscription services in India, making the streaming and bundled offerings more expensive for both existing and new customers. The updated rates have already taken effect across Apple's platforms and cover nearly all subscription categories, including Student, Individual and Family plans.

The latest revision comes less than two years after the company last increased Apple Music subscription prices in India. It also follows recent price hikes across several Apple hardware products in different markets.

Apple said the increase is driven by rising music licensing expenses. Streaming platforms pay royalties and licensing fees to music labels, publishers and artists to make content available to subscribers. According to the company, higher licensing costs have necessitated a revision in subscription pricing.

While customers will pay more for the services, Apple has not announced any new features or additional benefits alongside the revised plans.

Subscription plans become more expensive

Under the revised pricing structure, the Apple Music Individual plan now costs Rs 139 per month, compared with Rs 119 previously. The Student plan has been increased from Rs 59 to Rs 69 per month.

The Family plan has seen the largest increase among Apple Music offerings. It is now priced at Rs 229 per month, up from Rs 179, and continues to support up to six family members through Apple's Family Sharing feature, allowing each user to maintain separate playlists, music libraries and personalised recommendations.

Apple has also revised the pricing of its Apple One subscription bundles, which combine multiple Apple digital services into a single monthly plan.

The Apple One Individual plan now costs Rs 195 per month, compared with Rs 175 earlier. The Family plan has been increased from Rs 365 to Rs 445 per month, while the Premier plan has risen from Rs 499 to Rs 595 per month, marking the biggest increase among the bundled offerings.

Apple One subscriptions include services such as Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple Arcade and iCloud storage, with available storage options varying according to the selected plan.

Part of a broader pricing trend

The latest revision is not limited to India. Similar subscription price increases have also been reported across several international markets, including the United States, the United Kingdom and parts of Europe, reflecting a broader adjustment in Apple's services pricing.

The move also comes after Apple recently increased the prices of selected hardware products, including Mac, MacBook, iPad, Apple TV and HomePod models, citing higher component costs linked to the global memory shortage. Reports have also indicated price revisions for certain iPhone models in Japan.

The latest increase reflects the growing cost pressures facing digital subscription services, as technology companies continue to balance rising licensing and component expenses with evolving consumer demand.
