Along with the launch of iPadOS 18, Apple has also rolled out the latest OS update for Mac devices. macOS Sequoia. The new OS brings new features, including iPhone Mirroring, big updates to Safari, and a new Passwords app. iPhone Mirroring is a new Continuity feature that users can now access and engage with their iPhone right from their Mac. Apple Safari also gets new features, which makes it easier for users to discover new information on the web.
The macOS Sequoia update has reportedly affected the functionality of security tools developed by Microsoft, CrowdStrike, SentinelOne, and other manufacturers. According to a publication, numerous users on a Mac-focused Slack channel have expressed concerns about these issues. Gadgets 360 staff members also identified multiple Reddit threads where users reported that their security apps stopped working after the macOS update. Some users speculated that the lack of support for these security tools could be due to several glitches in the new operating system.
A user expressed frustration over the lack of support for security tools, stating, “Amazing it isn't supported yet. Beta's have been available for a while, dev builds even earlier - I assume they have a dev account. Unless something is really, really, broken on Apple's side - there isn't an excuse.” This sentiment highlights the concern many have, especially since numerous organizations rely exclusively on Mac devices. Issues with security systems could pose significant risks.
According to the report, a CrowdStrike sales engineer mentioned in the Slack room that, despite their best efforts, the security tools would not be supported on the day of the update's release. It remains unclear whether these tools are currently compatible with macOS Sequoia.
Additionally, a Reddit user noted that the issues with macOS Sequoia extend beyond security tools, affecting other applications as well. They reported that nearly 90 percent of the apps on their M1 Max-powered MacBook Pro were experiencing problems. The user also encountered a Wi-Fi connectivity issue, where they were unable to access the internet despite being connected to a phone hotspot. Frustrated by the situation, they stated, “If it is still like this, then tomorrow I will do nothing at work.”
