It has been announced that Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will address the media at 4 pm today. As India continues to fight the coronavirus, PM Modi announced a Rs 20 lakh crore economic package last night, including reforms in land, labour, laws and liquidity without giving clear details about the future of lockdown 4.0. Stock markets rallied on Tuesday on optimism over the stimulus package. Former Finance Minister P Chidambaram criticised PM Modi's announcement, calling it a blank page. India's tally of positive cases surges past 74,000 and the death toll is at 2,415. Globally, the death toll from the virus has surpassed 290,000 with US, UK and Italy being the worst-hit.
Ex Finance Minister P Chidambaram has written on Twitter, “Yesterday, PM gave us a headline and a blank page. Naturally, my reaction was a blank! Today, we look forward to the FM filling the blank page. We will carefully count every ADDITIONAL rupee that the government will actually infuse into the economy.”
