Amazon Web Services (AWS) has outlined its plans to invest $8.2 billion in Maharashtra over the next few years, aiming to enhance cloud computing and technology deployment in India. This investment will focus on advanced cloud management solutions and cutting-edge technologies, including the latest graphic processing units (GPUs).
Sandeep Dutta, President of AWS India and South Asia, led a team that met with Union Minister of Electronics and Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, to discuss the investment details on March 3.
Vaishnaw confirmed the investment, emphasizing the company’s optimism about India's growth prospects. "They are bringing the latest technologies and deploying top-tier compute facilities and cloud management services," Vaishnaw stated after the meeting.
AWS to drive job growth in India
Alongside the significant investment, AWS also plans to create numerous job opportunities across the country. "There will be a substantial increase in employment as part of this investment, with AWS committed to adding jobs in India in the coming years," Vaishnaw added.
The move is seen as a response to the growing demand for cloud services, driven by India's expanding digital economy and the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) across various sectors. AWS’s investment underscores its dedication to strengthening its presence in India, a key market for the company in the global cloud industry.
