U.S. electronics retail giant Best Buy plans to significantly expand its Indian technology hub, boosting its headcount by over 40% in the coming months. The move is part of the company’s strategy to leverage India’s deep and growing talent pool for global operations.
The Bengaluru-based tech centre, also known as a global capability centre (GCC), was established last year and currently employs around 350 professionals in areas such as data, artificial intelligence (AI), software engineering, and product management. The workforce is expected to grow to between 500 and 550 employees.
Once regarded primarily as low-cost outsourcing hubs, GCCs have evolved to play a critical role in supporting parent companies with diverse functions, including daily operations, finance, research, development, and advanced technology projects.
“We will be hiring across functions, with a strong focus on digital and technology roles,” said Nithya Subramanian, Senior Director, Data & AI Centre of Excellence, speaking at an event in Chennai.
Best Buy, best known for selling consumer electronics like laptops, kitchen appliances, and cameras, is actively hiring for positions such as AI engineers, software engineers, and product managers in India, according to its LinkedIn job postings. The expansion reinforces the retailer’s commitment to innovation and global digital transformation.
