BlackBerry Limited has announced that starting from 1st April 2018 onwards, all paid software on the BlackBerry World app store would be removed. Along with doing away with paid content, the payment mechanism in the BlackBerry store would also be disabled.
As stated in a letter circulated, BlackBerry World, the app store of BlackBerry will become a "free-only storefront".
Further, refunds for paid content will be supported until April 30th, 2018, the note confirms, and customers will retain access to paid content even after it is removed.
The company announced that developers willing to continue trading on the portal will have to log in and change their content to "free". Failing to do so would result in the termination of their content from the store by March 31st.
However, apps can still be monetized if the developer supports payments and built into the app.
