Blue Ant Media, the global streaming, production, and rights-management company, has acquired MagellanTV, a digital streaming platform specializing in factual content, for $12 million (€10.2m).
Founded in 2018 by Greg Diefenbach and Thomas Lucas, MagellanTV delivers content across genres such as history, nature, science, space, and true crime. Its portfolio includes SVoD, AVoD, and FAST channels, distributed via partners like Roku, Amazon, Apple, Samsung, LG, Comcast, Vizio, Pluto TV, and Google, reaching audiences in 13 countries across more than 20 platforms.
“This acquisition expands Blue Ant’s scale and strengthens our distribution capabilities,” said Michael MacMillan, CEO of Blue Ant Media. “MagellanTV’s business model is ready to grow within our global infrastructure, and we’re excited to welcome their talented team.”
As part of the deal, Greg Diefenbach will join Blue Ant as Executive VP, Streaming, reporting to Carlyn Staudt, President, Global Channels and Streaming. Co-founder Thomas Lucas will remain involved for several months to ensure a smooth transition.
“Partnering with Blue Ant opens new opportunities to scale MagellanTV’s platform and reach wider audiences,” said Diefenbach and Lucas.
This acquisition marks Blue Ant Media’s first strategic move following its recent RTO, underscoring its ambition to become a leading global provider of factual content.
