Presenting the Interim Budget for 2019-20 in the Lok Sabha on Friday, Piyush Goyal said that Artificial Intelligence would be a national program with the national portal to be developed soon in India and Artificial Intelligence & related technologies are been contemplated by the government. The Narendra Modi led NDA government has been knelling high on technologies such as AI, and is eyeing to launch fifth-generation (5G) technology.
"Nine priority areas have been identified and national Artificial Intelligence portal will be developed soon," Goyal added.
Goyal further added that under the 'Make in India' programme, the number of mobile and parts manufacturing companies have increased from 2 to over 268, providing huge job opportunities.
"Digital Infrastructure and digital economy of 2030 will be built upon the successes achieved in recent years in digitisation of Government processes and private transactions. Our youth will lead us in this endeavor with innumerable start-ups creating digital India, and millions of jobs in this eco-system," he said.
The NITI Aayog has identified five sectors - healthcare, agriculture, education, smart cities and infrastructure and transportation - to focus its efforts towards implementation of AI to serve societal needs.
The think-tank also unveiled a discussion paper on national strategy on AI which aims to guide research and development in new and emerging technologies.
"The paper gives many disruptive suggestion including one to utilise market place models for data, annotation and deployable solutions in AI. We need to democratize access to and development of this technology," said NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant.
According to a latest Accenture report, AI has the potential to add $957 billion to India's economy in 2035. As a report more than 50 per cent of Indian retail companies will be operating on AI by 2020.
