Canon EOS M unveiled
2012-07-27
Canon has announced Canon’s first digital single lens non-reflex camera, EOS M. The all-new EOS M cumulates the fruits of Canon’s EOS technology to create a interchangeable lens camera in a compact form factor.
Kazutada Kobayashi, CEO & President, Canon India, said, “At Canon, we constantly innovate to offer the best and the most sophisticated technology to our consumers that enhances their digital imaging experience. The EOS M is a revolutionary new offering from Canon that announces our entry into the mirrorless cameras domain. This is a relatively unexplored space that offers great growth potential to camera makers. We are excited about our latest proposition, the Canon EOS M, as it boasts of class leading features and technology.”
Dr. Alok Bharadwaj, Senior Vice-President, Canon India, said, “The demand for mirrorless cameras in India has not been huge as the technology itself is relatively unknown despite some camera makers offering mirrorless cameras in the past. This technology is meant for a new genre of consumers - the Prosumers - who desire the best of both worlds, the ease of a point & shoot and the image quality of a DSLR. The challenge has also been to offer these Prosumers a convincing product that doesn’t become redundant when they want to upgrade to a DSLR. Canon ‘EOS M’ is the outcome of highly sophisticated research that promises to deliver better- than-expected results and will prove to be a game changer for the industry. The ddgital SLR category is growing at a very high rate of 50% annually. Our new introduction will add more spice to the growth.”
With the introduction of the EOS M, Canon launched two new lenses (EF-M18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM and EF-M22mm f/2 STM) to complement its new class of cameras. Furthermore, the EOS M is supported by an unrivalled range of more than 60 EF and EF-S lenses, further expanding its versatility.
