OpenAI’s popular chatbot ChatGPT is now available as an app for Mac users. Announced a few weeks back, OpenAI had been slowly making it available. However, it is now available for all Mac users to download.
For starters, users will need an M1 Mac as the app doesn’t run on Intel-powered Mac devices. The desktop app is only available for macOS 14+ with Apple Silicon.
“The desktop app is only available for macOS 14+ with Apple Silicon (M1 or better),” says OpenAI.
Users who have a M1 or later Mac, then they can go to the OpenAI’s website and download the app. It is available for free.
The new app allows users to chat with the AI assistant and even add attachments like files, photos, and screenshots directly into the messages. A simple command Option + Space opens ChatGPT from any screen on the Mac. Users can just fire up Voice Mode and chat with ChatGPT.
The company is coming up with a new upgraded Voice Mode with more features in coming weeks. The features will be powered by the latest GPT-4o technology. However, it's not clear when the voice mode will be made available to users.
While no date has been revealed, OpenAI has said that a Windows ChatGPT will be coming later this year. "We had planned to start rolling this out in alpha to a small group of ChatGPT Plus users in late June, but need one more month to reach our bar to launch," said OpenAI.
