OPEX based business model in the cloud offerings attracting customers
Vishal Shah
Co-Founder and CEO Synersoft Technologies
The key trends
Three types of data points are setting the trends:
The proliferation of the Internet across the country is an important data point to watch for. With the Jio revolution, the Internet is commoditized. That brings natural convenience to adopt and depend on cloud computing.
The awareness about cybersecurity. Double-digit growth in cybersecurity solutions indicates enterprises' changing mindset and inclination toward cloud computing.
The quantum of investment flowing in to create the cloud infrastructure in India is the third data point to watch for. With the "Data Localization Policy" in place shortly, expect tremendous demand for local data centres to facilitate local cloud infrastructure. The availability of local cloud infrastructure will decide how soon and conveniently enterprises' can transform to Cloud Computing.
Cloud to scale the customers’ business
We have invested in cloud infrastructure in data centres. The first and foremost reason for our customers to explore cloud computing is the OPEX based business model in our cloud offerings. Our OPEX cloud offering, compared to the on-premise CAPEX offering, makes it convenient and cost-effective. The second reason is the flexibility to upscale or downscale the usage according to the business conditions. Our cloud offerings ensure Instant scalability on either side. The third reason is the changed mindset post-covid leading to a preference for working from home or remotely. Our cloud offering is a Single-Cloud - Single-Agent solution to access File Data, Application Virtualization, Email Data, DLP, and Remote Access. It provides holistic solutions to transform the business entirely in the cloud without integrating multiple-cloud - multiple agents.
The latest technology adoption trends in MSMEs
I see the latest technologies being adopted by MSMEs are disruptive. MSMEs now have choices. The OEMs are now designing products specifically for MSMEs. It was never the case earlier. The products were designed for large enterprises and were meant to be used by IT Professionals. They were loaded with several features suitable for large scale usage and required IT talent to integrate, implement, and maintain them. MSMEs had to pay for the features they were never going to use due to the smaller scale of their usage and struggled to engage IT talent that never aspired to work for MSMEs. Impressed by the sheer volume of business in the MSME sector, now OEMs launch DIY (Do It Yourself) products with minimal features meant for MSMEs. To list a few such disruptive technologies, IT in a Box or IT as a Service solution for standardizing IT infrastructure, device hardening solutions for DLP, dual profile systems for BYOD, and application virtualization for remote access are the most prominent.

MSME’s transitioned from Cloud scalability to elasticity
Biswas Nair
Founder & CEO, Inspirria Cloudtech
The key trends
There are lot of predictions from analyst to technology vendors on the key trends in technology especially computing power, quantum computing, smarter devices, AI, Machine learning and datafication to name a few. We still have a long way to go with leveraging the digitalization strategy especially with Cloud technology being the key propeller to achieve business strategy success.
Cloud to scale the customers’ business
Scalability is the inherent capacity of a system to cater to growing demand by adding more or bigger computing resources. This term “scalability” was coined to describe the ideal state of the architecture that is growth-friendly for successful startups or MSME in India. A scalable cloud architecture is made possible through virtualization. Unlike physical machines whose resources and performances are relatively set, virtual machines (VMs) are highly flexible and can be easily scaled up or down. They can be moved to a different server or hosted on multiple servers at once; workload and applications can be shifted to larger VMs as needed. Third-party cloud providers also have all the vast hardware and software resources already in place to allow for rapid scaling that an individual business could not achieve cost-effectively on its own.
The latest technology adoption trends in MSMEs
Post pandemic the MSME’s have transitioned from Cloud scalability to elasticity. Elasticity refers to the ability of a system to drastically change computing capacity to match an ever fluctuating workload. Systems are configured so that clients are only charged for consumed instances, regardless of sudden bursts in demand. In an elastic system, you pay for what you consume. This is pretty relevant in a start-up environment wherein a new launched mobile/web application needs to react to their system usage with increased user surge or in the traditional set up retail business who have to be elastic with seasonal buying behavior patterns.
Pandemic increased the adoption of cloud
N K Mehta
MD & CEO, Secure Network Solutions India
The key trends
Physical office is no longer the necessity. Virtual offices, meetings, teams and collaboration are acceptable. Focus has turned towards achieving productivity than putting everybody in a room to work. Are the right people, doing right things (effectiveness), and doing things right (efficiency) are the questions. Access to corporate resources, maintaining confidentiality, and integrity, liberating them from a physical work place, and yet achieve the highest productivity is the key trend to watch. Remote productivity products are sure to see an uptrend.
While some companies have reported increase in productivity, many are facing productivity challenges. As a result many large corporate are trying to bring the workforce back to office, even for few days a week. So Hybrid trend is what is going to follow in future.
Remote working has shifted focus from perimeter security to end point security and hence EDR products would be a key focus. Automation of threat management would also be another trend to watch.
Cloud to scale the customers’ business
Public Cloud offerings are yet to become practical and economical. Prices have to come down to increase the reach. Financially stable and profitable companies have adopted cloud for Mail, CRM, ERP, and HRMS. Hybrid environment widely exists. Converting them into 100% cloud will take some time. India based companies whose target customers are in India, can move their infrastructure to India based service providers offering collocation services as the first step towards building (private) cloud. In a lighter note, due to pandemic, romancing with cloud has increased in a big way however marriages are not happening at same pace and romancing would still continue for some time.
The latest technology adoption trends in MSMEs
From the business applications point of view, mail, CRM, ERP, and HRMS are the new adoption trends. Collaboration tools such as Microsoft Teams and Cisco Webex are in vogue. From the Cyber Security point of view, SSO/MFA, Cloud based DLP, SASE/SSE, EDR, and Cloud Firewalls are in trends. MSMEs offering Web based services are utilizing Cloud based DDoS, WAF, and CDN facilities.
SASE and Cloud-based disaster recovery practices see high demand
The key trends
Cloud computing has grown in popularity and adoption during the last few years. This trend can be traced back to the pandemic, which has compelled many companies to go digital and adopt the work-from-home & hybrid model. Some big cloud trends that will continue to expand and affect the industry in the future years include:
Integration of AI & ML to Cloud and Automation: Cloud technology has been a huge catalyst in enabling and expanding AI, ML, and automation. They are also crucial driving elements in AI and automation adoption since they can provide low latency and on-demand services, as well as superior data management and processing capability.
Organisations will embrace Multi-Cloud: The multi-level cloud has gained a lot of popularity in the IT world in recent years. Cloud computing is now being adopted by a growing number of enterprises. The multi-cloud is projected to become Omni-cloud in the future years as more portable apps enable smoother connectivity.
Enhanced Security and Compliance: Businesses are increasingly concerned about security and compliance of their cloud infrastructures. Enhanced security features and compliance credentials are being offered by cloud providers in response. As a result, Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) and Cloud-based disaster recovery practices are in high demand.
Cloud to scale the customers’ business
While we do not distribute Cloud Hosting services - but we have started a practice where we focus on technologies which enable cloud adoption. We are building a stack which includes the entire spectrum of technologies which make cloud adoption quicker, safer and scalable. These technologies range from on one side helping customers evaluate the decision to move to cloud to helping customers migrate to cloud and once the data is on cloud manage the data in terms of securing the data and its access as well backing up the data - these have now been with us for a couple of years now and we have seen significant successes post the pandemic time. Now we have expanded to technologies which hep customers automate and optimize their cloud deployments. We believe with this entire spectrum we will be enabling partners to help their customers to scale their cloud stories.
The latest technology adoption trends in MSMEs
MSMEs are a significant contributor to the Indian economy, and the need for technology to change and promote growth in the MSME sector, particularly in the nano and micro enterprise sector, is clear. MSMEs are undergoing substantial transformations as a result of new-age technologies like AI, data analytics, ML, and financial and accounting intelligence. MSMEs are adopting new business models as a result of these technologies. MSMEs should design a view for data integration across products
Chetan Desai
Global COO, Bahwan CyberTek
The key trends
Cloud has levelled the business playing field for MSMEs, helping them punch above their weight. Firms are overcoming investment barriers using pay-as-you-go and subscription models offered by solution providers, instead of spending heavily on licenses and infrastructure. This move from the traditional CapEx to a sustainable OpEx model allows them to compete effectively with larger enterprises with bigger IT budgets.
In India, I see two key trends:
First - Availability of cloud infrastructure, both private and public, is improving within India. Infrastructure providers like Microsoft Azure, Amazon AWS and Google Cloud are seeing enormous growth in demand for their services and are ramping up infrastructure capacity. Domestic market size and a flourishing start-up economy has given them opportunity and the confidence of high business returns from the Indian market.
Second -We’re seeing a large proliferation of agile cloud-native SaaS products. More importantly, these products are now being tailored to suit the Indian context, which was never the case before. Today, even big players are focusing on designed-for-India products and biz apps due to growing demand. This will fundamentally change the accessibility of best-in-class solutions for MSMEs.
These trends have given enterprises the freedom to choose fit-for-business products at low initial cost and the flexibility to scale operations and investment as they grow.
Cloud to scale the customers’ business
Cloud enables everything from increased employee collaboration to heightened customer experience. A phased approach gives customers the advantage of continuous augmentation of services while minimizing operations impact or disturbing mission-critical applications. Basically, progress in small chunks and avoid big IT fiascos. MSMEs now have access to economically viable best-of-the-breed business apps. The businesses can phase and risk manages the change and business adoption associated with the tools, at a scale they’re comfortable with.
The latest technology adoption trends in MSMEs
Data at the core- While MSMEs adopt fit for business SaaS products, they should also consider a design view for data integration across products and across enterprise. This will eliminate the challenges associated with data siloes historically faced on-premise. They need to do this upfront because of the tremendous value it offers. Data mining with a 360-degree framework produces significant business insights.
Zero-trust approach to security - This framework encourages the scrutiny of all users and data flow within and outside the organization. While cloud is an inherently secure and trusted environment, design, implementation, and management of the IT landscape will be critical to ensure compliance and mitigate cyber-attacks. It’s crucial to choose the right tech stack and partner for a seamless and secure transformation.
DevOps-driven mindset- Indian MSMEs and global enterprises are embracing a DevOps culture to bring development and operations together for faster innovation and shorter deployment time. The historical waterfall model of managing IT programs is now obsolete. Continuous code/capability releases create a feedback loop that increases customer adoption and reduces roadblocks to business value.
Cloud computing helping businesses to save time and money
Biren Shah
MD, Adit Microsys
The key trends
Emphasis on cybersecurity - With more computing and IoT devices connecting over the Internet than anyone ever imagined cybersecurity has become an immense challenge in the industry. To address the growing cybersecurity concerns, “Zero Trust” is the trend to watch out for. Companies will need to build higher-level cybersecurity standards with the stance of “never trust, always verify.”
Cloud to scale the customers’ business
Cloud computing can help businesses of our customer save time and money by boosting productivity, improving collaboration and promoting innovation. Benefits of adopting cloud services such as (1) ease of access anytime, anywhere, (2) ease of backup and restoration of data and (3) scaling up or down on-the-fly to meet sudden fluctuations in business demand, all enable customer to focus on business instead of IT administration and free up funds from CAPEX, helping customers grow their businesses.
The latest technology adoption trends in MSMEs
For an MSME now, the digital revolution is no more a distant dream which only large companies could think of a few years ago. The latest Technology adoption trends in MSME are adoption of top technology thru’ the “as-a-service” model, covering IT infrastructure, networking, ERP, payment, security solutions, data storage, online marketplaces, and so on.
The pandemic has accelerated the pace of digital transformation at such a level that more and more Indian micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) are seeking to move to the Cloud and there adoption is faster compared to large enterprise. The affordability cloud offers to start small and pay as we go plays a key role in digital transformation. Most MSMEs are becoming cloud-native first. Larger companies are relatively less nimble and decisions such as on-prem versus cloud take long time involving many departments with varying views and consideration of many factors. MSME decisions are mostly driven by the promoters or a small team of top management, making for faster decisions and adoption since they also find it a big challenge to hire experienced IT professionals, retain and manage them to do everything in-house.
