DGCA bans Samsung Galaxy Note 7 after Qantas, Jetstar, Virgin Australia and Taiwan Airlines
2016-09-10Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the regulatory unit of the ministry of civil aviation, government of India has prohibited the use of Samsung Galaxy Note 7 mobile on board an aircraft.
Keeping in view its endeavor to promote safe and efficient air transportation through regulation and proactive safety oversight system, the ministry of civil aviation has issued a public notice prohibiting the use of Samsung's Galaxy Note 7 smartphone on board an aircraft.
The ministry has advised airlines and traveling public not to turn on or charge the said mobile during flights. This has been done in light of several incidents globally, involving the battery of Samsung Galaxy Note 7. Passengers have also been advised not to stow Galaxy Note 7 mobile in their checked in baggage.
Recently, Samsung Galaxy Note 7 has been banned by Australian Airlines - Qantas, Jetstar and Virgin Australia. The smartphone has also been banned by Taiwan Airlines.
Recently FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) of USA said, "In light of recent incidents and concerns raised by Samsung about its Galaxy Note 7 devices, the Federal Aviation Administration strongly advises passengers not to turn on or charge these devices on board aircraft and not to stow them in any checked baggage.
In response to recently reported cases of the new Galaxy Note7, Samsung conducted a thorough investigation and found an isolated battery cell issue.
"There have been a small number of cases reported globally and we are currently conducting a thorough inspection with our suppliers to identify possible affected batteries in the market. However, because our customers’ safety is an absolute priority at Samsung, we have stopped sales of the Galaxy Note 7," said Samsung in a statement issued to UK customers.
"For customers who already have Galaxy Note7 devices, we will voluntarily replace their current device with a new one, beginning on September 19," added statement released by Samsung on its UK website.
