The collaboration aims to combine conversational AI and digital payments, enabling users to initiate and complete transactions through voice or text interactions in multiple Indian languages as demand for voice-first internet services grows.
Digital payments company PayU has entered into a strategic partnership with artificial intelligence firm CoRover.ai to introduce AI-enabled payment systems capable of operating in more than 100 Indian languages and dialects. The initiative aims to simplify digital transactions for users who prefer interacting with technology through voice commands and natural language conversations.
The collaboration will integrate PayU’s payment processing network with CoRover’s conversational AI platform powered by BharatGPT. Through this integration, AI assistants will be able to initiate and complete payment transactions directly within conversations, either through voice commands or text-based interactions.
The companies say the technology is designed to support India’s rapidly expanding base of conversational internet users, particularly those who rely on regional languages and voice-based interfaces to access digital services.
Focus on voice-first digital payments
Under the partnership, PayU’s secure payment infrastructure will be connected to CoRover’s AI-driven commerce framework. This setup allows intelligent digital agents to process transactions while interacting with users in a conversational format.
Manas Mishra, Chief Product Officer at PayU, said that conversational AI could play a key role in the next phase of digital payments. He emphasised that while AI-led transactions could enhance user convenience, maintaining strong security standards and regulatory compliance would remain essential.
Similarly, Ankush Sabharwal, CEO of CoRover.ai, noted that conversational agentic AI enables systems to interpret user intent, perform tasks and complete payments within a single interaction. He added that integrating PayU’s payment ecosystem with BharatGPT would support multilingual and voice-driven commerce experiences tailored for India’s digital landscape.
Initial use cases and future expansion
One of the first applications of the collaboration will involve voice-enabled UPI payments on Afterlife, a platform that uses CoRover’s voice AI technology. PayU is also supporting payments for Kanhaji.ai, another AI-powered service developed by CoRover.
Looking ahead, the companies plan to expand the technology to a wider range of sectors, including e-commerce, travel, OTT services and banking.
The partnership will also explore integrating innovations developed by the National Payments Corporation of India, such as UPI Circle and UPI Reserve Pay. These systems could enable AI agents to carry out secure payment transactions within conversational interfaces while meeting compliance and security requirements.
The initiative reflects a broader industry trend toward combining artificial intelligence with financial technology to make digital services more accessible for users across languages and regions.
