ESET reports on Cyber Threat
2012-09-19
ESET has recently found that most of Indian systems are infected by INF/Autorun malware due to carelessness while using cracked software or connecting external drives to their PCs and laptops.
It has also been declared that ESET researchers have been following the threats landscape in India, collecting information about malware activity through ESET's ThreatSense.Net, a sophisticated malware reporting and tracking system that utilizes malware-related data from all ESET users.
Similar to previous months, the most common malware in India in August 2012 are INF/Autorun, Win32/Sality and Win32/Ramnit. On the contrary, Win32/Conficker worm which remains in top-3 cyberthreats worldwide is still very less active in India.
"The prevalence of INF/Autorun.gen threat and other samples of INF/Autorun family in India indicates that Indian users are still careless about the basic security measures like using genuine software, including antivirus software, scanning removable media before opening the files, etc. Removable devices are very common now among Indian users. However, the practice to scan them with reliable antivirus, if at all the user has any, is still something unimportant. That keeps simple threats such as INF/Autorun always on the top among other threats," stated Pankaj Jain, Director, ESET India.
