In a recent statement, Mr. Navin Gupta, President of the Federation of All India IT Associations (FAIITA), voiced serious concerns over the implications of the Standardization, Testing, and Quality Certification (STQC) requirements on India’s Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) operating in the IT sector.
"While the intent behind STQC certification—to bolster data security—is commendable, its implementation poses significant hurdles for MSMEs," said Mr. Gupta. "For many small enterprises, the technical complexity and financial demands of compliance are overwhelming. If not addressed with urgency, we could see the unfortunate shutdown of over 1,000 MSME units nationwide."
He cautioned that the stringent certification requirements risk stifling innovation and growth in a sector that plays a pivotal role in India's digital economy. "Our MSMEs are the backbone of the IT ecosystem. They require structured support and resources to comply with these mandates. Without it, we endanger jobs, entrepreneurship, and the vibrancy of the industry."
Given the rising operational costs across sectors, Mr. Gupta appealed to government bodies, regulators, and financial institutions to step in with collaborative measures. "It is essential to create an enabling environment where MSMEs can adapt, remain compliant, and continue contributing to the economy. Collective support is the need of the hour to ensure continuity and sustainable growth."
