The government is set to link FASTags with real-time accident data to enhance road safety and streamline emergency response systems across India. The initiative, led by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways in collaboration with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), aims to create a unified digital ecosystem where every road incident is instantly recorded and monitored.
By integrating FASTag—currently used for automatic toll collection—with accident tracking systems, authorities will gain immediate access to vehicle details such as registration, owner information, and travel patterns. This real-time visibility will enable faster identification of accident sites and quicker coordination between highway patrols, hospitals, and emergency services.
The system will also support data-driven policymaking by analyzing accident trends, identifying high-risk zones, and optimizing resource deployment. Over time, it is expected to reduce response times, improve driver accountability, and contribute to the government’s broader vision of reducing road fatalities by 50%.
Once operational, the integration will mark a major step in transforming India’s highway network into a smart, connected mobility system—combining digital tolling, traffic management, and emergency response into one seamless platform for safer and more efficient road travel.
