Google’s new Gemini Canvas automates slide creation by converting documents, reports, or outlines into professional, themed presentations with structured titles, visuals, and layouts, enabling instant editing, collaboration, and seamless transition from content creation to storytelling
Google has unveiled a major AI-powered upgrade to its productivity ecosystem with the rollout of Gemini Canvas, a feature that can automatically transform written documents into fully formatted Google Slides presentations within seconds. The new capability eliminates the need for manual formatting, allowing users to convert research papers, business reports, or even basic outlines into professional, themed slide decks instantly. Gemini Canvas analyzes the text, identifies key sections, and generates structured titles, visuals, and slide layouts for a polished look.
Once the presentation is created, users can open it directly in Google Slides for editing, customization, and real-time collaboration. The feature aims to bridge the gap between content creation and presentation, helping users focus on storytelling rather than design.
Rolling out globally for Workspace and personal accounts
The feature is currently rolling out globally across both personal Google accounts and Workspace users. Early adopters have reported access through Gemini Advanced (Pro) subscribers, with a broader release for free-tier users expected soon.
Expanding AI’s role in productivity
Gemini Canvas is housed within Google’s Canvas mode, introduced earlier this year as an AI-driven workspace for brainstorming and drafting. With this update, Canvas extends its capabilities beyond writing — it can now take ideas from text form to visually engaging presentations, making it useful for students, educators, and professionals alike.
This innovation underscores Google’s growing emphasis on embedding AI-assisted creativity into its Workspace suite. By automating tedious formatting and design steps, Gemini Canvas enables users to move from concept to presentation almost instantly — saving valuable time in classrooms, boardrooms, and content teams.
As Google continues to expand Gemini’s integration across Docs, Sheets, and Slides, this new feature reflects a clear shift toward turning AI into a true productivity collaborator, capable of enhancing both creativity and efficiency in the workplace.
