Some reports hinted at patents from Google about an upcoming phone with a folding design.
The upcoming foldable from Google is codenamed "Passport" and might be called Pixel XE. This has further been confirmed by Jon Prosser, a credible tipster, via a tweet in which he mentioned that "Pixel "fold" is a real thing". Another display analyst revealed that Google and many other manufacturers would launch foldable devices in 2021.
Several other media reports suggest that Google will be using Samsung foldable displays for the Foldable Pixel. In addition to that, a source Korean source says that Google has requested Samsung Display (a separate Samsung company that manufactures displays) a 7.6-inch display for an upcoming device. Google is taking a plunge by getting into the foldable game as the tech is not very refined. However, it will be foolish to deny that foldable smartphone tech is the next big thing.
Google published two patents back in January 2021. The patent show-cases different fold designs like a clamshell, notebook inward/outward and more. Some earlier reports suggest that Pixel 6 might be a foldable device, but it turns out the Pixel foldable will be a separate device. The upcoming Pixel 6 will be made available to the consumers in Q2 like always, and the Pixel foldable may debut then alongside Pixel 6.
A few big players in the smartphone industry have already jumped into foldable tech. That being said, the foldable tech has improved by leaps and bounds in the past couple of years. Devices like Samsung Galaxy Fold 2, Moto Razr, Samsung Galaxy Flip Z and the latest Huawei Mate X2 have raised the bar a notch up. Hence, Google will have to buckle up if it wants to compete with players like Samsung and Huawei in the foldable market. It was Information About Google upcoming mobile
