The Me Meme feature, found in Google Photos v7.51.0 APK teardown, lets users combine a photo with a meme template to create AI-generated images, though it remains inactive and unavailable to beta testers
Google Photos is reportedly developing a new AI-powered feature that will allow users to turn their selfies into memes. Dubbed “Me Meme,” the tool aims to generate meme-style images using a combination of user photos and popular templates, offering a fun, creative way to share personalized content across social media and messaging platforms. The feature is still under development, and Google has not disclosed a potential release date.
How the Me Meme feature works
According to reports, the Me Meme functionality was discovered during an Android application package (APK) teardown of Google Photos version 7.51.0. The tool allows users to select a photo and pair it with a meme template, creating an AI-generated image that blends the two elements. Screenshots from the discovery show the feature’s onboarding page, which encourages users to “Turn yourself or your family and friends into your favourite memes” for sharing in group chats and online. Currently, the feature is inactive and unavailable even to beta testers, indicating it remains in early testing stages.
Additional AI enhancements in Google apps
In a separate APK teardown, Android Authority identified improvements to Google’s Gemini app. Found in Google app version 16.42.61, the update reportedly enhances the voice input functionality by allowing users to lock the microphone, giving them more time to complete voice prompts without interruptions. This addresses the current limitation where the microphone shuts off after a pause, improving user experience for voice commands and dictation.
Caution on feature availability
It is important to note that Google has not officially confirmed either the Me Meme feature or the Gemini voice input update. Many planned features in Google apps are sometimes abandoned before public release, so users are advised to treat these reports as speculative until the company makes a formal announcement.
If implemented, these enhancements could expand Google Photos’ creative capabilities and improve accessibility in Google apps, reinforcing the company’s push toward AI-driven personalization in everyday digital tools.
