Google to help Airtel push 4G
2022-01-31US tech giant Google’s partnership with Bharti Airtel will help India’s second-largest telco push feature phone users to rapidly go 4G, and in turn, boost its average revenue per user growth, with its focus on driving mass adoption of affordable smartphones.
Since one of the focus areas of Bharti’s partnership with Google is to accelerate smartphone access by providing cashbacks and incentives, this can help the telco “increase ARPUs as customers move from feature phones to smartphones, thereby accelerating 4G upgrades.”
Analysts say “Google’s skin in the game” would also streamline the US tech giant’s engagement with Airtel better, in that, the Sunil Mittal-led telco would directly benefit by way of revenue market share (RMS) gains in the coming quarters.
Google’s OS expertise and 5G network virtualisation (capabilities), could also help Bharti in ironing out teething 5G handset and network issues faster.
