In a major stride toward green mobility and auto industry innovation, Hindalco Industries has officially forayed into the electric vehicle space with the launch of a ₹500-crore EV component plant in Chakan, Pune. The facility, spanning 5 acres within a prominent industrial park, is dedicated to the production of lightweight, crash-resistant battery enclosures made from aluminium, a critical element in next-generation EV battery technology.

Aluminium Battery Enclosures for the Future of EVs

The company’s new EV battery enclosures—co-developed with Mahindra & Mahindra—are designed to offer up to 40% weight reduction compared to conventional steel-based designs. These enclosures not only improve vehicle performance by reducing overall weight but also enhance safety through improved crash resistance, addressing one of the most pressing needs in modern electric vehicle components.

With this facility, Hindalco aims to address the rapidly expanding demand for sustainable mobility solutions in India. By delivering 10,000 aluminium battery enclosures to Mahindra so far, the company has already proven its manufacturing capabilities and commitment to accelerating India’s EV adoption.
