HP plans to manufacture laptops, desktop PCs, and all-in-one systems, with this year’s production target set nearly twice as high as last year’s output, which was achieved without PLI benefits.
In a major boost to India’s electronics manufacturing ecosystem, HP is all set to begin local PC production in May 2025 in collaboration with Dixon Technologies, one of the country’s leading electronics manufacturing services companies. This initiative comes under the government’s ambitious ₹17,000-crore Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for IT hardware, which was launched in 2023 to enhance domestic manufacturing and reduce import dependency.
Local Production to Nearly Double Output
Local Production to Nearly Double Output
HP aims to nearly double its production output compared to last year, when it manufactured computers in India without any incentives from the PLI scheme. Now, backed by the Production Linked Incentive, the company plans to scale significantly, producing a wide range of devices including laptops, desktop PCs, and all-in-one systems.
This move aligns with HP’s commitment to tap into the rapidly growing Indian PC market, which has seen a surge in demand from sectors such as education, government, and small businesses. With support from Dixon Technologies, HP is poised to become a key player in local PC manufacturing, catering to both domestic consumption and export needs.
PLI Scheme a Game-Changer for Electronics Manufacturing
The PLI scheme for IT hardware, covering laptops, tablets, all-in-one PCs, and servers, has become a cornerstone of India’s strategy to become a global manufacturing hub. HP is one of 27 companies approved under this scheme, which offers financial incentives based on incremental production and sales.
For Dixon Technologies, the partnership with HP marks another milestone in its journey to become a manufacturing powerhouse. Already a preferred partner for several global brands, Dixon’s collaboration with HP reinforces its role in advancing India’s electronics manufacturing ambitions.
Driving Self-Reliance and Economic Growth
The move also complements India’s broader vision of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ (Self-Reliant India), aiming to strengthen domestic supply chains, create jobs, and reduce reliance on imports. By boosting local PC production, the government hopes to capture a larger share of the global electronics market while meeting the growing digital infrastructure needs of its population.
As HP and Dixon Technologies gear up for the production rollout, their partnership is expected to energize the Indian electronics sector. With strong policy backing, favorable market conditions, and world-class manufacturing partners, India is fast emerging as a preferred destination for PC and electronics manufacturing.
