Commemorating second successful year of Huawei Maitree Scholarship, Huawei India felicitated 16 bright minds with the scholarship as they set forth for their academic pursuits to China. This education based CSR initiative of the company in India was open to aspiring Indian students who have already secured admission to institutions of higher education in China, the Maitree Scholarships aim to build a platform for exchange of ideas between the two nations, fostering a closer understanding of each others’ culture and society.
After tedious rounds of screening and selection by an eminent panel of jury over the last 3 months 10 finalists were presented with the prestigious scholarship at an award ceremony held at the India Habitat Centre in the capital. Alongside awards were also presented to 6 other students who were able renew their scholarships by keeping up their academic track record. Rita Chatterjee, Hon’ble Joint Secretary, School Education and Literacy, Ministry of HRD, Zhang Yan, Chinese Ambassador of India, author and youth icon Chetan Bhagat, leading educationists S.C. Vats and S. K. Garg graced the occasion by presenting the awards to the successful scholars along with the jury members.
Since its inception in 2011, the scholarship program has significantly expanded the career opportunities available to Indian students. “It is easy to agree on the need for better education, but the real challenge lies in the how we are going to improve the outcomes,” stated Mr. Yao Weimin, VP Corporate Affairs, Huawei India. “With this scholarship we aim to demonstrate the importance we attach to the cooperation between China and India across all segments be it business, education, culture or economy.
Chetan Bhagat, Brand Ambassador, Huawei India closed the ceremony with his motivational words of wisdom and said, “It has given me immense joy to be associated with a scholarship that has emerged as a prestigious and noble cause. India is demographically one of the world’s youngest countries and its future naturally lies in the hands of its youth. With some guidance and mentoring they can, going forward play a huge role in shaping not just their future, but that of their country as well.”
