Huawei has organized India Broader Way Forum 2014 where it unveiled the report titled “Superfast India- Repeating the Leapfrog - now to Next Generation Networks” which outlines the possibilities and benefits of next generation networks at social and economic spheres and its impact on overall national competitiveness. It also determines various factors in implementing 4G networks from the viewpoint of three main stakeholder groups including government, operators and consumers.
The report has been commissioned in association with Booz&Co. and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). The launch event witnessed participation from heads of governments, industry leaders, and experts along with Cai Liqun, CEO. Huawei India
Smt. Rita Teaotia, Special Secretary, Department of Telecommunications (DOT), Ministry of Communications & Information Technology, Government of India was present as Chief Guest at the Broader Way Forum. She also addressed a key note at the unveiling of the report.
Cai Liqun, CEO, Huawei India said, “Through the launch of this report we aim to analyse the impact of a successful telecom strategy on overall national competitiveness. It also evaluate the possibilities and benefits of next generation networks and dwells upon building fourth generation mobile network technology for building a Better Connected India”.
Smt.Rita Teaotia, Special Secretary, Department of Telecommunications (DOT), Ministry of Communications & Information Technology, Government of India said, “Broadband networks have become a part of country’s socioeconomic growth. It has assisted in increasing departmental and governmental efficiency, improved people’s life & welfare, transformed business models. Our initiative of Digital India programme is one such step in this direction. However, in order to realize our goals, we need collaboration with in the telecom ecosystem to provide the required impetus for the implementation of the programme. There is also a need to advance to next generation in attempt to keep up pace with ubiquitous connectivity for all the citizens.”
The report also calls upon the government to fund and initiate a pan-India institutional programme to develop integrated right of way infrastructure to support next generation networks as well as other social services. This will lead to deliver better outcomes for citizen health, utilities, industrial competitiveness, knowledge economy and environment. The policy recommendations stated in the report will also assist in delivering world class affordable communications and connectivity services to all segments of the Indian population while also addressing the digital divide in rural as well as urban areas.
