International Data Corporation (IDC) has released the India Cloud Report - "India Cloud Cross-Vertical Demand-Side Perspective, 2014." According to the report, companies in India are making a gradual move from on-premise legacy to different forms of cloud. While the process is gradual, it is starting by migrating certain application workloads to cloud.
"IT in an organization is no longer a support function, it is a lever to achieve business goals. And cloud is the technology that is helping organizations realize quantifiable benefits. While on-premise legacy is still the dominant form of IT, the share of cloud services is only increasing while still largely limited to ad-hoc projects. Among cloud services, while highest deployments are in public cloud it has its fair share of concerns in security and vendor lock-in. Thus, organizations are increasingly looking at ways to deploy cloud on on-premise, hosted and virtual private clouds," says Rahil Maniyar, Senior Analyst, IDC Consulting.
The demand-side perspective of cloud includes a "deep dive" into the usage trends of various cloud models, acceptance of cloud, distribution of workload categories across on-premise legacy systems vis-à-vis different cloud models, key decision makers and influencers, preferred vendors, IT spends on public and private cloud, and how IT resources and skills are evolving to accommodate cloud transformation. It also highlights the emerging trends in cloud services.
