Indian Institute of Technology of Madras has introduced a series of wellness sessions from April 19, 2023. This is a part of the number of initiatives taken up by the institute to offer every student an environment that is filled with harmony and peace.
In association with the National Health Mission, Government of Tamil Nadu the program has been organised for students through talks by renowned professionals who are involved in enabling mental wellness.
This session aims to increase the awareness on mental health and also provide the options available to students whenever they feel they need to address the stress they are experiencing.
On this occasion Shilpa Prabhakar Satish, IAS, Mission Director, National Health Mission highlighted the Mental Health Programme implemented by Government of Tamil Nadu and various mental health activities initiated through the District Mental Health Programme. Further she explained about ‘Natpudan Ungalodu-Mananala Seva’ and Tele MANAS programme launched in October 2022 as per the press release
To add to this wellness programme launched, Prof. V. Kamakoti, Director, IIT Madras, spoke about the various initiatives that have been taken by IIT Madras to combat the stress and improve the mental well-being to convert IIT Madras campus to a “Be Happy” campus. On the day of the launch, he also showed the new website behappy.iitm.ac.in., which is primarily for students’ mental well-being.
