Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has introduced a new Aadhaar application designed for rapid, QR code-based identity verification and real-time facial authentication, aiming to eliminate the need for physical Aadhaar documents. This advancement seeks to simplify identity verification, mirroring the ease of UPI transactions.
The app, currently in beta testing, will allow individuals to share their Aadhaar details digitally, replacing the current practice of handing over physical photocopies at places like hotels, airports, and train stations. Users can verify their identity by scanning a QR code and undergoing instant facial recognition.
Vaishnaw demonstrated the app's functionality in a video, highlighting its user-friendly interface. He emphasized that the app grants users complete control over their shared data, allowing them to provide only necessary information.
The minister stressed the app's security features, ensuring that Aadhaar details are shared directly from the user's phone with their explicit consent, eliminating the risks associated with photocopies. This digital approach enhances privacy and protects against data misuse, forgery, and editing.
UIDAI's technology center showcased the app's ability to empower Aadhaar holders to share data selectively, enhancing privacy during service utilization.
Initially released to a select group of users, including participants of the Aadhaar Samvaad event, the app will be refined based on user and partner feedback before wider release. This move represents a significant step towards a more secure and convenient digital identity verification system in India.
