Speaking at the MeitY-MAIT Industry Connect, a programme designed to facilitate the exchange of ideas between the Ministry and the ICT industry to enhance the business landscape in the country, Mr. S. Krishnan, Secretary, MeitY, and Mr. Bhuvnesh Kumar, Additional Secretary, MeitY, conveyed the great vision of the Ministry in establishing the nation as a leading name in electronics manufacturing.
Addressing a diverse audience comprising industry leaders and policymakers from IT hardware, Telecom, Mobile Phones, and other subsectors of the ICT industry, as well as key government officials, Secretary Krishnan mentioned that the government aims to increase value addition in the overall electronics manufacturing sector.
Secretary Shri Krishnan further stated: “We are poised to become the largest market in electronics in a few decades. Electronics will constitute a significant portion of products in India that are traded and exported globally. If we aim to boost domestic manufacturing, India’s Component Manufacturing has to grow.”
He also shared that they are exploring ways to help the MSME sector involved in the entire value chain. Shri Krishnan also highlighted India’s growing domestic consumer market and its importance in further boosting the overall Electronics sector.
"As an important element of the modern manufacturing sector, the electronics manufacturing industry plays a crucial role, creating job opportunities ranging from semi-skilled positions to high-tech and management roles in the fields of engineering, design, and R&D," he said.
He also urged the industry to support the Ministry with information, Data, and R&D and foster industry-academia collaborations.
The Additional Secretary Shri Bhuvnesh Kumar, in his speech, emphasised the R&D aspect of MeitY, which is a major investment area for the Ministry. He mentioned that the Ministry has allocated a budget of INR 1000 crore for R&D.
“Currently, 400 R&D projects are ongoing under MeitY. The R&D projects are posted on MeitY’s Prime Portal,” Shri Kumar mentioned while appealing to the industry to come up with ideas and work towards R&D.
Shri Sanjay Lodha, Vice President, MAIT, and CEO of Netweb Technologies, a key speaker on the occasion, shared some interesting facts about the industry while welcoming the key officials of MeitY. Shri Amrit Jiwan, Vice President MAIT & Gen. Counsel & Director, Company Secretary, Canon India Pvt Ltd, concluded the programmeme with a vote of thanks to the guests and all participants of the programmeme.
Col. Suhail Zaidi, Director General, MAIT, who played an important role in organising the programme, shared some interesting facts about MAIT’s origin in his presentation.
