Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said Wednesday that Instagram has surpassed 3 billion monthly active users (MAUs), cementing its status as one of the world’s most widely used social apps. The last disclosed figure came in 2022, when Instagram crossed 2 billion MAUs.
Acquired for $1 billion in 2012, Instagram has evolved far beyond its early photo-sharing roots. Analysts estimate the app will account for more than half of Meta’s U.S. ad revenue this year, reflecting its central role in the company’s business.
A key growth engine is Reels, launched in 2020, which thrust Instagram into the short-form video race against TikTokand YouTube Shorts. TikTok, owned by ByteDance, recently said it has over 1 billion monthly users worldwide.
