Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and Dimension Data have jointly announced the ‘go live’ of their BSNL Internet Data Centres (BSNL IDC). These data centres were inaugurated by Shri Kapil Sibal, Hon’ble Minister of Communications and Information Technology. BSNL is expected offer Managed Colocation, Managed Hosting and Cloud Services through these IDCs built, operated and managed by Dimension Data for BSNL.
Located in Mumbai, Faridabad, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Ludhiana and Ghaziabad, the six data centres are claimed to be India’s first Uptime Institute certified Tier III level data centres. These Data centers have been certified to meet Tier-III quality standards by the internationally reputed "Uptime Institute" of USA which signifies true high availability, as the data centres are designed to be fully redundant with no single point of failure.
Shri Kapil Sibal said, "I congratulate BSNL and Dimension Data on this pioneering public-private initiative to leverage the strength of BSNL in Telecom infrastructure & vacant buildings and that of Dimension Data in providing data center and cloud computing. Cloud computing is expected to be the future of information technology. The increasing commitment of government towards healthcare, education, banking, rural development and other e-governance initiatives will drive significant adoption of cloud computing across the country. These IDCs will enhance BSNL’s comprehensive service portfolio to meet the communications and IT needs of large medium as well as small business enterprises in India. It will facilitate various organizations to quickly induct IT enabled services within their organizations without the hassles of setting up and maintaining their own data centers."
Shri Sachin Pilot, Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology (IT) said, "Technology sets certain demands and expectation on the Government when government aims to deliver more interactive services through E-Governance when interacting with the citizens, institutions and business enterprises. For this, cloud computing may lead to significant cost savings. The last few years and coming years will see both state and central Government using more IT solutions and services for serving citizens. I compliment BSNL for creating a new innovative business partnership model with Dimension Data whereby the two leaders with complementary core competency have joined hands".
