The dedication of ISRO and the incredible work done for the Chandrayaan 2 Moon Mission make every Indian a proud citizen and is an inspiration to every Indian. It has laid the foundation for many more path breaking & ambitious Indian space missions.
Addressing scientists at Bengaluru's ISRO control centre, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the best is yet to come in our space programme, and India is with their scientists. "Learnings from today will make us stronger and better. ISRO has its encyclopedia of success, some hurdles cannot put its flight out of trajectory," he said hours after India lost contact with Chandrayaan-2 lander Vikram.
India is proud of our scientists! They’ve given their best and have always made India proud. These are moments to be courageous, the Chandrayaan-2 started the Moon journey and we will remain hopeful and ISRO will continue working hard on the space programme.
The status of Chandrayaan 2 mission is unknown hours after Chandrayaan 2’s lander Vikram began final descent towards the moon and lost contact with ground control around 2.1 km from the lunar surface. ISRO chairman briefed Prime Minister Narendra Modi who was at the ISRO headquarters to witness what would have been a historic feat. K Sivan also told media persons that ISRO was analyzing the data last sent by the lander.
It is definitely a setback to the country’s maiden attempt to land a spacecraft on the moon’s surface. As the lander began the 15 minute autonomous descent, it overcame a major hurdle of what is called as the rough breaking phase to go down from a height of 30 kms to around 2.1 kms. Soon after, the lander lost contact with the ground station.
However, the orbiter, which has several instruments on board continues to hover around 100 kms over the moon. As the graphs deviated on the screens at the control centre in Bengaluru, ISRO chairman K Sivan went into a huddle with other scientists including former chairman Kiran Kumar to understand what could have caused the blip. Sivan had called it “15 minutes of terror” due to the uncertainty and the inability of the ground station to take control of the spacecraft during the descent.
Sivan soon went to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who had arrived to witness the descent and rolling of the rover, to convey that the communication was lost with the spacecraft.
Lastly, we can say, it is a journey and it must come to success one day, which will come soon.
