At the India Mobile Congress 2024, Akash Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Jio Infocomm, underscored the importance of artificial intelligence (AI) in shaping India's future, urging the government to prioritize a comprehensive AI strategy. Ambani's speech highlighted AI as a transformative tool that could revolutionize industries such as manufacturing, agriculture, healthcare, and education, propelling India toward its vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047.
“AI is absolutely critical for realizing our dream of Viksit Bharat by 2047,” Ambani said. He emphasized Jio’s commitment to democratizing AI, much like it did with mobile broadband, and noted that Jio is laying the groundwork for a national AI infrastructure. “We are committed to democratizing AI, offering powerful AI models and services to everyone in India at affordable prices.”
Ambani also called on the government to expedite the finalization of India’s Data Centre Policy, ensuring that Indian data stays within Indian borders. “Indian data should remain in Indian Data Centres. Therefore, Indian companies ready to set up AI and machine learning data centers should get all necessary incentives,” he added.
Additionally, Ambani outlined how AI could position India as a global leader in technology and innovation, stressing the need for accelerated talent generation to support the AI revolution.
The call for AI adoption comes at a time when India is already reaping the benefits of digital transformation, led by rapid 5G deployment and a growing data-driven ecosystem. Ambani’s speech reinforced Jio's role in India’s digital journey, stating, “It is our promise that not only will India lead the charge in mobile innovation, but we will also fully embrace the power of AI to create a connected, intelligent future.”
Ambani’s vision ties into Prime Minister Narendra Modi's broader digital strategy for India, emphasizing synergy between government and industry to foster innovation, inclusion, and digital progress across the nation.
