Jio IPO Draws Record ₹2.5 Lakh Crore Bids

Jio Platforms, the digital services arm of Reliance Industries, has attracted unprecedented institutional interest ahead of its initial public offering (IPO), receiving bids exceeding ₹2.5 lakh crore against an anchor allocation of approximately ₹8,110 crore.

The anchor book was oversubscribed more than 30 times, reflecting strong demand from global investment institutions, sovereign wealth funds, domestic mutual funds and insurers. Jio allotted approximately 7.24 crore shares to 212 anchor investors at ₹1,119 each.

Major participants included BlackRock, Fidelity, Capital Group, Singapore's sovereign investment institutions and Abu Dhabi Investment Authority. India's Life Insurance Corporation also secured a significant allocation, demonstrating broad institutional participation across domestic and international markets.

The ₹30,213 crore IPO, scheduled to open on October 21 and close on October 23, carries a price band of ₹1,065–₹1,119 per share. At the upper price, Jio's valuation approaches ₹10.3 lakh crore.

The strategic significance extends beyond telecommunications. With over 533 million subscribers, Jio is positioning itself as an integrated digital technology company spanning 5G, broadband, cloud computing, enterprise solutions and artificial intelligence.

However, extraordinary anchor demand does not automatically guarantee listing gains. Investors must evaluate Jio's valuation, competitive pressures, capital expenditure requirements and ability to monetise emerging digital services. IPO proceeds will primarily support debt reduction and corporate requirements.

The larger takeaway is India's growing capacity to attract global capital into digital infrastructure. Jio's listing could establish an important benchmark for technology valuations, institutional confidence and future mega-IPOs. Ultimately, sustained profitability, AI commercialisation and expanding enterprise revenues will determine whether the enthusiasm translates into long-term shareholder value.
