K Madhavan has been appointed as the new Country Manager of Disney and Star India from 1 January, the move comes after Sanjay Gupta had stepped down to join Google.
Prior to this, Madhavan has served as managing director of Asianet Communications Ltd and vice-president of the Indian Broadcasting Foundation
Walt Disney had acquired Rupert Murdoch’s 21st Century Fox Inc. in a $71 billion cash and stock deal in June 2018. All functional heads will now report to Madhavan who will be reporting to Shankar.
Prior to this, Madhavan was Managing Director of South Business, Star India, since 2016. He is credited with have led the development and growth of the entire television market in the South region. He currently oversees the business ventures of Star in four southern states and a portfolio of regional channels in Malayalam, Kannada, Tamil and Telugu.
Sanjay Gupta moved out of Disney and Star India to join Google as its new Country Manager and Vice President of Sales and Operations for India last month.
